Current Projects

Since 2022, The Reflection Project has been working in partnership with the Al-Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in North Kensington. Through this partnership, we offer free 1:1 in-person therapy for children and young people (aged 2-24) from the local community.

In 2023, Al-Manaar was awarded Best Youth Service at the Beacon Mosque Awards in Nov 2023. This work includes the Al-Manaar CYP Therapy Service in partnership with The Reflection Project.

Free psychotherapy for young Muslims (aged 18-24) living in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, as part of the borough’s Community Public Health Programme 2024-27. The project will also include emotional wellbeing workshops for young people, and training for professionals working with Muslim communities in the borough.

Funded by RBKC Community Public Health Programme.

Following a successful pilot project in 2021-22 funded by Young Barnet Foundation, we are expanding our services in Barnet. We offer free 1:1 in-person therapy for Muslim-heritage children and young people (aged 2-24) and parent consultations. So far, collaborations in Barnet have included: Youth Realities, Somali Bravanese Welfare Association, Center of Excellence, New Citizens’ Gateway and Rephael House. More to come!

The Reflection Project facilitates Coram Adoption‘s Muslim Adoption Support Group, an online space for adopters to share experiences and explore issues affecting Muslim adopted children and their families. These include faith-related matters, cultural attitudes, child development, identity and mental health issues.

We also provide training for adoption social workers on working with Muslim families.

A one-day conference bringing together researchers, mental health practitioners and community members to explore faith-sensitive approaches to mental health care for Muslim children and young people.

Author Saara Akhtar has joined forces with The Reflection Project to develop a series of children’s books designed to help them (and their parents) navigate life’s ups and downs with confidence and faith.

In response to our initial research findings via a survey of Muslim parents, the first book in the series will deal with issues around the Year 6-7 school transition period. If you would like to host a focus group to explore Saara’s initial ideas, please get in touch.

A qualitative research project carried out by Psychology student Sinan Yarmey, Fordham University (USA) into attitudes towards mental health among young British Muslims. In collaboration with a Muslim Youth Centre in West London. Publication due 2025.

Upcoming Projects

Working with Mind in Haringey, we plan to offer child psychotherapy to local children and young people. So far, collaborations in Haringey have included: Intermission Youth Theatre.

We are developing a series of workshops for young refugees and those seeking asylum, working in partnership with youth mentoring charity Unfold. The series will include 6 workshops (mother & baby, young people, training for Unfold’s volunteer mentors) focusing on faith- and culture-sensitive emotional wellbeing and anxiety management techniques.
